Q: What is TitanoMachia?
A:
TitanoMachia is an upcoming action real-time strategy mod (or MOBA) for the video game StarCraft
II: Wings of Liberty and its
upcoming expansion, “Heart of the Swarm”.
The game features two custom game modes: one where two teams battle for
territorial dominance of the map by occupying and defending designated territories
and another where multiple teams struggle to capture and defend strategic “nodal
points” dispersed among the region.
Q: What is a “MOBA”?
A: MOBA stands
for “Multiplayer Online Battle Arena”; it is a sub-genre of the RTS (Real Time
Strategy) genre in which the player commands a single “hero” character to meet
certain objects and obtain victory. MOBA’s traditionally consist of two teams of
players fighting for dominance of a battlefield.
Q: How is
TitanoMachia different than others of the MOBA genre?
A: TitanoMachia
is different than others in the MOBA genre in that the heroes (or Titans)
harness and control the powers of the elements. This mechanic creates a fresh
and original style of gameplay that is completely unlike any MOBA to date. In
addition to that, the
victory-objectives are different than your typical linear “attack and defend”
method of play—battle in the Tartaros Arena is totally non-linear, requiring
keen strategy and adaptability in order to achieve victory. As well,
TitanoMachia does away with the traditional “item’s-based” system and
introduces a completely original augmentation-system to alter your Titan’s statistics
(and more!)—details on this system will be unveiled at a later date.
Q: Why should I play TitanoMachia?
A: If you
enjoy intense, strategic team-based PvP combat that evolves across the course
of a battle—constantly demanding more of you and your skills—then TitanoMachia
is the perfect game for you.
Q: What is the lore of TitanoMachia?
A: TitanoMachia
is very loosely based on the aftermath of the ten-year Titanomachy (War of the
Titans) in which the twelve Olympians (championed by Zeus, chieftain of the
gods) cast the twelve Titans (led by Cronus, king of the titans) into Tartaros
(a desolate land beneath that of hell itself, described to be as far from earth
as the earth is from the heavens- a place of eternal damnation and strife) as
punishment for their crimes against the heavens. In Tartaros, the Titans clash
for the chance to transcend the pit of death and exact revenge upon their malicious
captors.
Q: When will TitanoMachia be released?
A:
TitanoMachia is currently in the “Pre-Alpha” stage of development and a release
date is yet TBA; although Alpha-testing is slated to begin in Q4 2012.
